FAQ

Imagine you are a CEO. You are beginning to lose market share on your key product. Marketing urges you to increase advertising and reduce prices. R&D has high hopes on a new product and wants more money. Finance is worried about your debt level. Human Resources do not find enough qualified people to support your development. And you have just been offered to buy (at a good price, of course) one of your competitors.

What do you do? First, you’ll have to make choices. Then, you’ll have to ensure that these choices will give you the proverbial competitive advantage.

  • Should your company acquire your biggest competitor?
  • How can your company achieve major cost savings in its global supply chain?
  • What is the most effective way for your company to significantly expand your business?
  • Should a firm offshore some, most, or all of its R&D function?

Maybe you need to trim costs. Maybe you need to spend more to innovate. Maybe you need to expand to exploit economies of scale. But whatever you do, you will have to do it better than the competition

High-level, strategic questions such as these defy easy answers and textbook solutions, particularly in today’s complex business environment. Yet they are the types of questions that strategy consultants are called upon by clients to answer. And clients expect more than simply an accurate diagnosis of the problem: they want a practical, effective path to implement—one that can generate real bottom-line results and sustainable competitive advantage.

Business strategy consulting is done at very high level in the organization, typically the Board and the CEO. These are the ones making the choices. Below, the organization focuses on implementing the decisions (sometimes assisted by other consultants).

Business strategy consulting is about facts and common sense much more than vision or dreams. Facts make decisions easier. Dreams without facts make them tougher.

Business strategy consulting is tailor-made thinking. What works for one company will not necessarily work for the other, even in the same industry. Strategists use tools, but tools don’t make the strategist. Only the quality of the people matters in this business.

MMCS provides solutions for the above in strategy consulting.

Operational Excellence is not easy to define. Some descriptions are too broad. Others set parameters so narrow that the ultimate definition seems too focused in scope. Often, we end up with definitions that seem plausible in an academic sense, such as “Being world class,” “Being the best globally,” or, “Excellence in everything we do,” but are difficult to translate into practical actions. Worse yet, we end up with so many different interpretations of what “Operational Excellence” is that the organization as a whole lacks a precise definition and a roadmap to follow for achieving it.

To properly define Operational Excellence, we first need to ask some tough, fundamental questions about the nature of continuous improvement, the most important of which centers around a misconception regarding the purpose of continuous improvement itself.

We often hear that continuous improvement is a never-ending journey, and that by embracing the journey in and of itself, we will improve the operation forever. However, by setting the goal of perpetual improvement to make the operation more efficient, we may incrementally reduce cost, but there is no guarantee that our business will grow. What good is an efficient factory if the customer no longer needs our product?

To leverage operations to achieve business growth, the first step is to understand what Operational Excellence really is, and then how we achieve it. Think of it as answering the question: “Where will our journey of continuous improvement take us?” A good answer is that our journey will take us to Operational Excellence, or the point at which “Each and every employee can see the flow of value to the customer, and fix that flow before it breaks down.”SM While this definition may seem simple; it is in this simplicity that the magic lies.

By defining Operational Excellence in this way, it applies to every level and every person in the organization, from executives all the way down to the employees producing the product. It’s clear, concise, practical and, most importantly, actionable and teachable. Everyone in the organization “gets it.” They know that, in their respective areas, there should be a visible flow of product or information. They should be able to recognize if that flow is normal or abnormal and what to do if it is abnormal, all without requiring the assistance of management.

With this definition of Operational Excellence, we can begin to teach the true power of lean value streams by taking them a step further. We can now create value streams that not only flow at the rate of customer demand, but are made visual in such a way and to such a degree that every employee in the organization can physically see that flow.

Six Sigma has been defined in a variety of manners since inception at Motorola. There are three basic categories that Six Sigma fall into: a quality initiative that is focused on financial results for a business, a statistically based process improvement method, and a statistical measure of process/product capability. Six Sigma is all of these and has been evolving since it was first developed. A process engineer concerned about his company’s failure to maintain market share due to product non-conformances had the original thought. Dr. Mikel Harry and other statisticians then validated the concept with mathematical and statistical modeling.

Many have thought that Six Sigma applies to manufacturing because it was fundamentally focused on defect reduction, quality improvement and cost reduction. The reality is that Six Sigma applies to ANY process. Processes exist in every business, industry and walk of life. Businesses that have seen millions of dollars in bottom-line benefits include:

  • Law firms
  • Transportation companies
  • Chemical processing plants
  • Energy supply facilities
  • Financial institutions
  • Health care providers
  • Universities
  • Government agencies
  • Automotive and electronic assembly facilities
  • Insurance providers
  • Leasing companies
  • Military organizations
  • Textile production

Each of these entities has one thing in common: they all complete their business through the use of processes. Six Sigma can be utilized to improve any process, the key is determining which process (es) would benefit the company through the application of Six Sigma. Identifying and improving Core and enabling processes is paramount to the effective and efficient application of Six Sigma. This may include processes like:

  • Financial transactions
  • Logistics and scheduling
  • Order processing
  • Customer call centres
  • Design functions
  • Supplied goods receipt
  • Inventory management
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Customer service
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Quality auditing and control

Six Sigma has shown to be instrumental in improving a variety of processes in a multitude of industries. Odds are that it could be applied to your business too.

  1. I am suffering from loss in my business and want to improve it, how will it be possible?

Success of a business essentially depends upon the effectiveness of process within the organization. MMCS can partner you in accessing the as-is state of the processes, identifying gaps, and then get on the drawing board with you to create a unique framework of governance to reduce/prevent defects from happening.

This will include training the staff on improvement methods like, Lean , 5S and or setting up the framework of Quality Management System.

In order to ensure that results are repeatable, MMCS will help create that environment of change.

  1. What is the basis of cost calculation based on which I can avail your consultancy services?

Cost will depend on the size of the organization, what is the solution you are looking for, and the as-is state of the company.
  2. I work as a outsource service provider and want some process improvement to be done for my client. Will your firm facilitate me in that?

Yes we render our consultancy services to help business houses like yours in harnessing these opportunities.
  3. We own an engineering college and looking forward to outsource trainers for TQM, do you have such options with you?

Yes we do provide training pertaining to Quality related courses like TQM, Lean , ISO 9001 etc.
  4. We want to set a benchmark in education domain, how will ISO 9001 facilitate me in that?

ISO 9001 or Quality Management System is a standard that requires setting up of a management system to ensure quality of processes deployed in producing the product or service. Quality of anything that goes out from your organization is the only way to succeed, and your aim of setting benchmarks go well with the continual improvement requirement of QMS.

ISO 9001 is a very fruitful journey for those aspiring to create unique and infallible products/service.

We feel that ISO 9001 will complement your plans of setting benchmark in the education domain.

Unlike other quality control and management system, data driven approach of MMCS establishes a direct connection to the financial gains arising out of the processes implemented. Financial gains arising out of the improvements in the process are measured and quantified and are useful in selection and prioritization of the ongoing projects of process improvement. The financial gains are evaluated periodically during the analysis phase which must ensure that the costs involved in the implementation of the improvement will be paid off by the gains received from the improvements in the long run

MMCS Certification is becoming an expectation in the business world. According to the survey conducted in Cleveland Employers started preferring Six Sigma over MBA. This discipline was developed as a systematic way to improve quality, but the reason it caught fire was its effectiveness in cutting costs and improving profitability. According to the American Society for Quality, 82 of the 100 largest companies in the U.S. have embraced it. And that quickly trickles down.

ISO 9001 is a quality management standard. It applies to all types of organizations. It does not matter what size they are or what they do. It can help both product and service oriented organizations achieve standards of quality that are recognized and respected throughout the world.

Training in ISO 9001 will certify you as a lead auditor paving your career path as internal auditor or Lead auditor.

Internal Quality auditor can be defined as an individual within the organization that audits his or her own company to determine the effectiveness of its quality system.

Lead Auditor is an individual who is certified by organizations that have requisite authority to do so. It is governed by Quality Council of India or IRCA. The Lead auditor certification is a universally accepted certification and such certified individuals are authorized to conduct external audits as well.

Fee paid for knowledge enhancement is a kind of investment as its output is reaped in longer run. Theory classes with practical insight at MMCS are unmatchable. Online free study material does not equip you to meet face the challenges of a live environment. Moreover you do not receive any certificate that ensures that you have fulfilled all the mandates of that particular course.

These courses focus on process of an organization and its improvement. Hence the job profile primarily falls under the umbrella of Quality. Hence there lies an opportunity to be a part Quality Assurance, Process Improvement etc.

Job market is dynamic; let’s suppose you join an organization with a certification or skill set. After a period of time job requirement changes or gets enhanced but your resume remains static. Due to this not only promotion/growth but matching current job expectation becomes difficult.

It is a known fact that working individuals cannot manage time during weekdays hence they are given an option of weekend classes. Currently this facility is available at Orai center only.

Unlike other institutes we understand the requirement of those who are not a part of six sigma profile of an organization. We not only make you equipped with theoretical aspect of the subject but provide  practical insight so that when you get into a live environment, it becomes easier to adapt.

To cater Job related needs, in depth subject knowledge and practical insight almost caters majority of job related needs. To add to it we have a feature in our web site Job Opening that is being updated with latest job openings.
